The Challenge
By mid-2023, the BioProtection Portal was facing significant SEO challenges that were limiting its growth:
- Technical SEO issues: A new search system implementation had caused product pages to be “noindex” and orphaned, severely impacting indexability.
- Incorrect hreflang and canonical tags: This led to poor international SEO performance.
- Content challenges: Existing content was not optimised for organic traffic, and creating high-quality, multilingual content in a highly technical niche was complex.
- User experience: The site needed better UX to drive engagement, especially on the product search module.
